The Rehabilitation project in Manila bay by constructing and putting dolomite sand in it actually started in January 2019 and is a project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources ( DENR). Officials in DENR declared that it's already finished in the Month of this year.  The said project required a large amount of money in position and now that it's already done, it fascinates tourist attractions. However, throughout the construction there were many risks occurred building this project, not only in the health of people but because of environmental destruction and accidents in the source of mining the dolomite sand. The following are the catastrophic events that happened in the process of beautifying the Manila bay.

 

• Cebu provincial and their officials were worried that if the possible future projects continue to legalized quarrying and mining sand in the mountains it may repeat the landslide tragedy that killed many people back in September 2018.
• Plus the suspension of the project because of the investigation of the transportation of crushed dolomites caused Cebu corals to turn white because of the heavy siltation due to the spilling of the dolomites in the sea.
• Lastly not only that it resulted in harm to the marine environment of Manila bay but also quarrying in the mountains of Cebu caused the loss of habitats of endangered species such as the Black Shama bird, locally known as the Siloy.

         

         These are some mentioned problems that carried along while finishing the Rehabilitation Project in Manila bay. Of course,  not only the province of Cebu will be at ease if the government thinks of other possibilities or ways of beautifying places in the Philippines but also the other marine and mountain environments that are home to marine and land animals. The following are some thinkable proposals in order to sustain the beauty of Manila bay and other places without compromising other environments.

 

• Environmental Sustainability

Harbor some volunteers and peers that help our Manila bay and not only in Manila bay but other marine organic places in the Philippines that will  maintain the cleanliness. Focus more on a program that promotes protection and care from both land and water pollution. Take an action of cleaning with engagement, and knowledge sharing to stop coral damaging, save wild species from the land and water deterioration.

• Environment Conservation

In order to protect and conserve our environment that is also being benefited by plants and animals we have to take advantage of our capabilities, such as using our voice to spread awareness about the damages caused by quarrying of mountains and using artificial dolomite sand. Taking action using the knowledge and awareness of conserving the homes of endangered plants and animals. Seeking government help for the restoration of felled habitats of plants and animal species.

• What we plant is what we Get 

Tree planting program for mountains that experienced illegal mining and quarrying here in the Philippines. Bringing back what we get from the environment such as  rebuilding and conserving felled animal habitats that was caused by a lot of irrational human activities. 

          We are the new generation that starts a new change and  realization of our fellow Filipinos. So take action and start giving back to the environment that we benefit from, start making changes. After all, change is inevitable.
