As a native of Hartlepool, my interest in our town's rich history is personal. In one of my recent archaeological works, I was disheartened to see our past concealed beneath a carpet of grassland a key element of Hartlepool's story that was swept away during WW1 to enable gunmen a clearer view. Our shared history is being kept out of sight, something that has touched many whom I've spoken to on the dig. 

I firmly believe that this lighthouse is not merely a historic artifact but an untold tale that would instil pride and identity in both our locals and tourists. Uncovering this could urge a newfound appreciation for our town's past. However, we face an obstacle; a lack of funding to excavate the full area and reveal our history to all.

It's time for change. Let's come together and push for uncovering this meaningful part of Hartlepool's past. Demand from the local government the necessary funding to advance the archaeological excavation. Let's turn this site into an open history book, where our children and future generations can walk through the pages of their heritage.
