Make All Classes Have the Option to be Hybrid at UNCC

The Issue

Many students at UNCC feel that it is not safe to attend school in person this semester due to the rise in Covid cases.  We feel that not enough is being done to protect disabled and immunocompromised students that are more likely to die from Covid complications.  As of right now, we don’t have the option to attend many of our classes online, and are expected to attend in person surrounded by other people who may or may not be contagious with Covid.

Rapid testing for the Omicron variant of Covid has proven to be unsuccessful and incorrect. Many students will receive false negatives from mitigation testing and will be spreading Covid around campus in housing areas, student congregating area, and classes/labs.

Most classes are able to be delivered in an online environment or at least a hybrid environment (where some students would remain online and students who wish to attend in person can still do so).  Allowing this to happen will lessen the student population that is on campus at any given moment, decreasing the risk of a Covid clusters and massive breakouts.

We do not want to sacrifice our education and careers because we are uncomfortable being in person due to a pandemic-level virus that has now taken the lives of nearly one million people in the US and nearly six million people worldwide.

Please take our lives into consideration.  Please do your duty to take care of the well-being and health of your able-bodied, disabled, and immunocompromised students who do not want to risk their lives in order to attend classes that can very easily be administered online.
