Make the UNC college system extend the test-optional policy for the 2022 admissions cycle

The Issue

Many students in our state are still having a hard time taking the SAT/ACT. Due to COVID-19, many testing centers are closed or do not have enough seats for every student to have a fair chance to take the test. Amid the pandemic, many NC high schools are still doing virtual learning. Requiring students to submit a test score that many do not have access to take is unfair and should be optional for the upcoming admissions cycle. Over half of all four-year universities/colleges in the US have already extended their test-optional policy for the class of 2022, including all the Ivy Leagues. The past year has been a hard and trying time for all, so further stressing students out on top of online school with another college requirement (that many do not have access to) during the pandemic is unreasonable and should be optional for the 2022 admissions cycle.
