Unblock YouTube Videos for LAUSD students

Unblock YouTube Videos for LAUSD students

The Issue

Just this week (around April 7), LAUSD has blocked YouTube shorts from students in LAUSD. And now, as of today (April 9), LAUSD has blocked YouTube entirely. Only some educational videos are unblocked, but many other educational videos are not, and are inaccessible. I can see why LAUSD blocked YouTube shorts, as many students (including myself) often get distracted on YouTube shorts, which takes time away from educational and instructional time. However, YouTube regular videos should be unblocked and be an accessible resource for students because many use it for their homework and other educational purposes, as well as entertainment. Many LAUSD classes from Math to History often assign assignments that require watching YouTube videos, which makes the YouTube ban unnecessary. Additionally, Spotify was banned earlier this year, and YouTube has become the most common site for students to play music on as an alternative. Now, without YouTube, music is further inaccessible and students can't focus as well while trying to learn. Unblocking YouTube will be helpful for students and teachers alike, and will especially support education, well being, focus, and learning.
