Spotify is more than just a music streaming app; it's an essential part of the school experience for many students at Eagle Rock High School. Personally, it plays a significant role in helping me concentrate and get through classes that are particularly challenging. Whenever there's free time during lessons, Spotify helps break the monotony and makes long classes feel much shorter. Without the ability to access it during school hours, these classes can become nearly unbearable. I'm not alone in this feeling. Numerous students are affected when Spotify was blocked on school computers. Many have expressed their disappointment and genuine frustration, as they too rely on the music platform to help them study, relax, and focus.

Music is a powerful tool for enhancing cognitive performance and providing relaxation. According to a study published by the American Psychological Association, listening to music can improve mood, increase productivity, and reduce stress, all of which are crucial for academic success (source: APA). By blocking Spotify, the school has unfortunately taken away a key resource that supports students' mental health and academic achievements.

While understanding the school's concerns over bandwidth use or potential distractions, it is crucial to recognize the positive impacts that music, particularly accessible through Spotify, can have on a student's day-to-day life. Instituting clear guidelines and establishing designated times during which Spotify use is allowed can mitigate any potential concerns.

We propose a solution that maintains productivity while allowing access to music: unblock Spotify on the school network during lunch breaks and study hours. This approach balances the need for responsible internet use with the benefits of granting access to this important resource.
