On March 2nd 2023, Chess.com , a chess platform beloved by so many students, was blocked from all devices in the Tenafly District. The students were devastated. Chess is a board game that has been played for hundreds of years. I strongly believe that it is so successful, and has lasted so long  because it improves so much. Some scientifically proved benefits of the sport are, improved memory, elevated creativity and strategy, it helps people learn to plan things out, and be punctual, and specifically in children, it is known to help social, and emotional learning. It is not like other games, where you have a constant dopamine rush that can seriously harm someone’s brain (especially children), but it releases serotonin. This is why I believe that it is truly a sport, rather than game. When I am an adult, you won’t will not think “I am so greatefull I learned to play Fortnite,” you will think “I am so grateful I learned how to play chess, and learned so many lessons that helped my life be better.” Please help bring chess.com back! With all of these benefits, how can chess be banned? When chess.com was banned people were furious. Students were seen raging and on the verge of if not already crying. This “game” had put us together as a community, and as a community we will bring it back. #KEEPTHECHESS!!
