UMG: We are fighting back

UMG: We are fighting back
The Issue
Are you fed up with UMG? Here is your chance to highlight the problems UMG needs to address immediately. At the bottom of this cover page are the links you need to follow to have your voices heard. Contrary to what people say, you can not be blacklisted for leaving negative reviews or filing complaints.
If we find out UMG really does this, then the AG and FTC will be the two entities that will legally hold them responsible for these actions. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a consumer mediation entity that can’t hold them legally. However, it ruins their ratings.
As a passionate Taylor Swift fan, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of her new variant vinyls and CDs in addition to other merchandise. It’s not just a Taylor merchandise issue. It’s ALL artists that use UMG.

We are deeply disappointed with the current state of affairs regarding quality of products that come from UMG, Deceptive Marketing and the lack of consistency with these merchandise drops as well. It is unfair to expect us to be ok with damaged items or how merchandise sits in Ferndale, MI with a label created but never ships. UMG uses this tactic so we can’t cancel orders because it labels your order as “shipped”.
Furthermore, coming from the Taylor Swift Fandom, the quality of Taylor Swift's merchandise has been nothing short of horrific. As loyal fans who invest our hard-earned money into supporting her artistry, we expect good quality products in return. (With all artists through UMG as well)
There is a severe lack of quality control in place when it comes to manufacturing, packaging, and shipping merchandise. There are countless stories on social media that outline the time, energy, and money lost due to these quality assurance issues. This is not just Taylor Swift merchandise, it’s all of UMGs artists.
Another major issue that exacerbates this frustration is UMG's decision not to release all musical variants at once for artists and use’s deceptive practices when it comes to marketing. This causes panic among fans as they fear missing out on collecting all the different versions available and aftermarket sales are astronomical.
Then, UMG throws a wrench in the marketing and later releases them all at once undermining our efforts and creating unnecessary stress within the fandom community for all artists that use UMG.
In addition, it adds to the shipping cost when the items cannot be bundled and it feels like a money grab marketing ploy to sell more albums and break more records. If we have shown you anything, it's that we will show up and continue to support Taylor and all other artists with UMG, but in turn, we want our voices heard.
To address these concerns effectively, we call upon UMG to make significant changes in their marketing strategies as well as their approach towards customer service:
1. Provide free shipping for ALL merchandise orders or continue to provide free shipping if a monetary threshold is met, BUT include music in that bundle.
2. Implement a system that allows customers to combine multiple orders during variant vinyls/CD releases.
3. Establish stricter quality control measures for Taylor Swift and other artists merchandise production. We do not deserve to pay $70 for a shirt that washes an image off, or sweaters that come with holes in them or smelling like garbage with stains.
4. Release all variants simultaneously or provide clear communication about release dates, whether or not items will be released to indie stores as well as online.
5. Price gouging. There is no reason an umbrella from a drop is worth almost $80!
6. Indie Stores deserve to profit as well. Let fans know which is UMG exclusive and which items will be released in our local Indie stores that work incredibly hard to keep their doors open. Give indie stores lower prices so they don’t have to raise the prices even higher on their site to make a measly $5-15 per album. We know UMG does this so people buy from their store because they are cheaper than indie stores. It’s glaringly obvious they are hurting indie stores and its consumers. It’s truly criminal what UMG does to Indie Stores. If you are an Indie Store and you’d like to join the movement, we are here for you as well!
By signing this petition, we are urging UMG to prioritize its customers by improving customer service standards and ensuring better product quality for Taylor Swift fans worldwide as well as other artists UMG uses to sell subpar merchandise and the complete mistrust that we will get quality products.
Fans should not have to order multiple items because we don’t know what’s going to break, rip, not sewn correctly etc…Then those bots that answer emails. Get rid of them. Hire humans to have actual contact with consumers.
The disappointment in the quality of merchandise does not align with the prices being charged and clothing sizing is so inconsistent we often have to wait for other fans to review the item or buy multiple sizes to ensure it will fit. We deserve a change that addresses these concerns and ensures a more positive experience for all Taylor Swift fans and fans of other artists that use UMG.
Together, let's make our voices heard and demand better customer service and quality products from UMG for everyone that buys from UMG.
