Request To Make UMD Spring 2020 Classes Pass/Fail An Option Due To COVID-19

The Issue

With the rise of COVID-19, many schools have turned to online instruction to prevent further spread of the virus. This results in students not having the same resources to learn as in-person instruction, and the option for classes to be pass/fail is imperative to bridge the gap. Numerous institutions such as UVA, Northwestern, and Georgetown University have already changed their classes to have an option of being pass/fail; implementing this into UMD’s spring 2020 semester classes will be a crucial step to creating a fair grading system for students affected by the epidemic.
