SAVE FULLTIME IRISH DEGREE AT BELFAST CAMPUS OF ULSTER UNIVERSITY
The Issue
This petition calls upon Ulster University and Minister Stephen Farry (DEL) to save the full-time Irish language BA degree programme on the new Belfast Campus.
This full-time degree is in extremely high demand. The course has had a 100% enrollment rate for the last 3 academic years and 56 applications were made for 20 spaces for the coming year. This decision will mean a cutback on 60 full-time student places in Belfast.
In the National Student Survey (NSS) for 2015, this course was awarded a mark of 100% in terms of student satisfaction from the outgoing graduates.
To remove such a successful and popular course would limit the third level opportunities available to all A-Level students here and ultimately would prove to be a major blow to the Irish language at both academic and community level.
The new Belfast development is costing £250million to complete. It is vital that the Irish language full-time degree programme is offered on the University's main campus which is set in the heart of Belfast, home to a thriving and ever-growing Irish language community.
This petition calls upon the University and the Minister to reverse this decision. IT IS NOT TOO LATE. By signing this petition you a calling for the authorities to reverse this decision and to engage with the Irish language community, student body, and organisations to discuss and resolve this issue.
