As NYT reports, during ongoing peace talks, Ukrainian officials have reportedly floated the idea of calling a contested part of the Donbas region “Donnyland” — a reference to Donald Trump — in an effort to influence U.S. support.

This is a war zone.

The Donbas region has been the site of years of conflict, displacement, and destruction, with thousands of lives affected. Naming any part of it after a political figure risks turning a serious peace process into a branding exercise.

Ukraine’s sovereignty, identity, and territorial integrity must not be shaped by political flattery or short-term diplomatic tactics.

We call on:

Ukrainian leadership
Ukraine’s peace negotiators
to reject any proposal to rename Donbas or any part of Ukraine for political purposes.
