Why this petition matters

Started by Victoria Wright

Children, like my daughter, with Type 1 Diabetes have to fight for disability living allowance. I want to see a change in how Type 1 Diabetes is viewed. This is a lifelong condition. Yes, a person can keep their levels in range with the medication and technology but this comes with lots of hard work and the constant need to think about it. My daughter's world is very different from most people, who simply get to wake up in the morning and walk out the door. My daughter's life will never, ever be so simple.

And, crucially, this does not stop when she turns 16. Hundreds of families are fighting to get awarded PIP. It is now getting to the stage where people living with Type 1 Diabetes are saying “what's the point in even applying when you get knocked back”. We have to go through gruelling tribunals to get a small amount of help for our children. This is not just about money. This is about someone recognising what people living with Type 1 Diabetes have to go through every single day.

Please sign this petition if you believe, like me, that this process should be much kinder. Children like my daughter deserve recognition and support. We are fighting every day so that she can access this.
