Train more nurses here in the UK rather than poach from abroad

The Issue

The UK has year on year,  a lack of qualified nurses and doctors. The NHS relies heavily on expensive 'bank' or agency staff. At present we also look to abroad to fill the gap, causing shortages of staff elsewhere, and we still don't have enough qualified staff here. I suggest we train the projected number of staff we need here for free, and they must commit to working in the NHS for an agreed amount of time, eg 5 years at least. If this is not fulfilled the person has to pay back their training costs. Please support this petition to help our hard working healthcare staff who are battling with staff shortages on a daily basis. Life on the front line is stressful and burnout is a recognised result. Adequate numbers of permanent staff on the wards and in our communities is essential for staff morale and attainment, the safety of vulnerable patients and, for keeping costs down in the NHS. For our ever growing, ageing population we need to start now to train adequate numbers of staff, so that we can all feel confident for excellent care provision for the future.
