Stricter UK laws on personal doorbell & cctv cameras to protect neighbours privacy rights

The Issue

Make it compulsory that if a neighbour has a personal doorbell camera or CCTV device that is filming parts of their neighbours land or any shared land (i.e. in flats, shared driveways/paths or device directly pointed at others land instead of their own), they must obtain permission & agreement from the neighbour/s this affects the privacy of first before installing & filming. Make it an offence when this doesn’t happen to ensure devices are only being used as intended & stop people abusing the privacy of others & in extreme cases, causing personal safety & safeguarding problems when filming of children is involved. As it currently stands, there is general guidance around this matter but neither the Council, Police or ICO will become involved in cases where there are problems. People should not be left feeling like they are being spied on or harassed in their own homes.
