The Issue
What makes an animals life so much less valuable than a humans?
This petition is to get the law changed to ensure that when an animal or pet is hit by a traffic vechile, it MUST be reported in the same way that it would if a human were to be hit. There may be instances where this isn’t possible and where it isn’t the individuals fault, for example on a motorway, however there are so many other instances where the injured animal is someone’s pet and it is in a domestic setting. All animals deserve the same level of care and respect we give to each other. The current law does not involve cats, this MUST change.
The animal may just be another cat or dog or rabbit who ran out in front of your car but to someone else, that could be their family.
My family cat was hit by a car this morning and the only way my parents found out was by finding him sprawled out in the road with his jaw crushed. The decent thing to do by the person who did this, would have been to knock on somebody’s door and make them aware of what has happened, accident or not. My families cat could have been saved or comforted in his last few minutes, however due to there being no law against this, the person was able to leave the scene and our cat was left in the road injured and alone. Unfortunately, our cat passed away but this could possibly have been prevented if the law changed. Even if not prevented, no one should have to find an animal which has been injured by a human left in the middle of the road alone unable to move.
We wouldn’t allow this to happen to a human so why should it be ok for someone to get away with killing a family member who is an animal?
By signing this petition, we could change the law and take a stand against those that think it ok to injure or kill an animal and leave them there to suffer or die. Awareness needs to be made, animals need to be cared for. They can’t speak up for themselves, so we need to be their voice. If we don’t, where does this stop? How many owners have to hear through social media what has happened to their loved one, or never find out at all? How many animals, pets or not, have to suffer?
