Nigeria on red list - Deadlne & Enforced Hotel stay is discriminatory.
Most Nigerians in the UK save up to visit family in Nigeria in December.
It is also a time most go home to support community projects and take care of elderly parents.
PCR tests currently cost almost £70. We already do this twice in Nigeria and twice in England. That is £280 minimum added to travel expense. Then an additional £2 ,235 for hotel quarantine!
The UK govt has given less than 48 hours pre quarantine notice. Nigeria comes to a standstill on Sundays, so notice could be termed as below 24 hours to reschedule flights and book PCR tests.
Enforced quarantine from 6 December means a lot of Nigerians in the UK now have to cancel their plans to see family in Nigeria.
UK citizens also have to book new flights to get back.
The cost of enforced quarantine in hotels is too high considering one is returning home.
The approach is unfair and discriminatory.
It places heavy financial burden at a time households have lost earnings due to covid.
We should be given more time as well as the chance to quarantine in our homes in the UK and not in hotels.
The petition is to demand:
1. That we are allowed to quarantine in our homes on return.
2. That the deadline of 06 December is extended.
