Legal age to drink and buy alcohol to be raised to 21
Legal age to drink and buy alcohol to be raised to 21
The Issue
Binge drinking in the UK is a serious problem particularly amongst children. Drugs are an all time high. Alcohol particularly with youngsters can lead to health problems, addiction, health issues and drugs. The legal age to buy and/or drink alcohol should be raised to 21. Currently it is 18. Over 18's should be allowed to have a drink of cider, beer or wine with their meal, in a licensed premises such as a pub, if accompanied by an adult but they should not be allowed to buy drinks. Children 16 and over are legally allowed to drink at home or in private premises as long as they do not buy the alcohol. Currently the law stands that children as young as 5 are allowed to be given alcohol in the privacy of their own home, This should not be allowed.
