Decriminalise and Regulate All Drugs in the UK
The Issue
Why am I seeing rapists getting shorter sentences than drug dealers? No one asks to get raped, but I know many people who choose to pay their local dealer a visit, who choose to put drugs into their body. It's quite simple really - the only way to take away all the criminal activity around drugs is to follow in Portugal's steps and legalise them all.
Here is a link to an interesting article written about Portugal and their decriminalisation of drugs: Portugal's Radical Drugs Policy is Working, Why Hasn't the World Copied It?
Yeah, yeah, drugs can ruin people's lives. But drug addicts need help, rehabilitation, not bother with police and the jail. Plus, I am sure the government could do with all of the money that would be raked in from providing the nation with what they truly want. Police would also have more time to chase after real criminals!
Picture this: a group of friends having a sesh, inhaling whatever substance, and one member becomes unresponsive. Everyone else, in their altered state of consciousness, is too scared to phone for emergency help due to what consequences may fall on them for being involved with illegal drugs. The unresponsive member unfortunately later on dies because of the lack of help.
Everyone wants some sort of drug these days.. tobacco, alcohol, weed, coke, heroin.. the list goes far on. But to get a lot of these drugs, you have to commit a crime - introducing you to people that are a lot more involved in criminal activity, going on to introduce you to more criminal activity. Here's a proposition- some sort of place, like a club or whatnot, where someone could choose to party, take clean, regulated drugs, be given advice on how to stay safe on the drug, and be watched over by staff who are aware that there will be people under the influence of these drugs and more able to help if anything was to go wrong.
There are many ways the decriminalisation of drugs can help the UK. Your signature is crucial in finding out just how much help it can provide!
