Hey, my name is Tamara and I am starting this petition because I am motivated by racial injustice but more importantly I'm motivated by equality, which is why I want this brought to the UK.

I am a Black woman. I was born in Britain and come from a Caribbean background. As I have grown up in this country I realise that there is a need to address these things and recognise them in the form of legislation. Many Black women have faced discrimination because of their hair. Some have been denied jobs. Been told that it is UNPROFESSIONAL, and we need to change it to be accepted. Scarily some Black women have felt the need to change their natural hair just for an interview so they can get the job.

We are affected by systemic racism. Hair discrimination is racism. We can't change the hair that we were born with and to be treated less favourably because of that is racism. Our hair is part of us being Black. We have a right to wear our hair confidently just like every other race.

Dove have brought the CROWN act to the US. This protects women from racial discrimination based on their hair type. Such as afros, braids, locs and twists. We need protecting in the UK too. Bring the CROWN act to the UK.
