The British Government and Public Health England have consistently ignored World Health Organisation (WHO) advice on how to deal with COVID-19. As a result many thousands of people have needlessly died. We believe that the UK Government and the Public Health bodies of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland must now follow WHO advice.

When the WHO said that countries should not stop trying to contain the virus, the UK did stop containment (it is now having to start again 25,000 deaths later.) When the WHO said to find every case of the virus, the UK stopped asking people with symptoms to record them with the NHS. When the WHO recommended quarantine of 14 days for those with symptoms, the UK government recommended just 7 days.

The UK continues to ignore WHO advice. While the WHO recommends countries "test, trace, and isolate every case", the UK talks only about "test, track and trace." Last week the UK announced its 5 tests to end lockdown. These are significantly less stringent than the 6 tests that the WHO recommends. The UK must follow international standards to avoid further spread of the disease and more needless deaths!
