The cost and benefits of the proposed High Speed 2 rail link (HS2) do not make economic or environmental sense.

To build a rail link to cut the time to travel from Birmingham to London by 20 minutes at a cost of up to or more likely exceeding, 100 billion pounds sterling is economic madness. Bear in mind that it is likely to take over 20 minutes to drive to a station to join the new link negates the 20 minute saving on HS2. The environment is already suffering irrepairable damage and a few unscrupulous individuals are getting extremely rich, at the expense of the majority of British taxpayers and the wildlife and countryside along the proposed routes.

It's time to use technology such as virtual meetings and home working via the internet to reduce travel as has been proven to be feasible during the recent pandemic lock down.

Stop this vast waste of money and use technology to improve the existing rail network by adding extra carriages and extend platforms where necessary.
