Make gyms essential in order to remain open to support Englands mental health
Despite the number of COVID-19 infections developed in gyms being absolutely minute in comparison to the spread of the virus in settings allowed to remain open such as university's - Gyms have been included in the list of ‘non-essential’ settings that will close from Thursday 5th November for a minimum of one month.
Many people during the summer lockdown struggled with keeping active and therefore remaining physically and mentally well, this will be furthered by poor weather over winter.
It is also likely that more people are struggling with poor mental health, this concern is projected in the recent rise in suicide rates.
For many people the gym gives them a sense of purpose, some sort of routine, a release or escape for those with poor mental health which may keep them going. The gym can have a significant impact on users psychological and physical wellbeing in extremely testing times where we would like to hope the government want to promote this.
Gyms are able to remain safe through sanitising hands and equipment throughout sessions, remaining socially distant and temperature checking gym users on arrival. Please keep gyms open as they are essential to mental and physical wellbeing.
