Bookmakers must lay advertised odds to any customer up to a £500 liability on single bets
The Issue
I, like many others in the UK, like to have a bet on sports through online UK Licensed Bookmakers. For me, it adds to the excitement of watching an event on the television. I am a great fan of horse racing.
Analysing and betting on the outcome of a horse race has been my main hobby for over twenty-five years. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose.
Most of us normally bet to quite modest amounts of money, maybe £5, £10 £20 etc on a single win bet.
Many people will bet to what they can afford from their wages, or savings set aside for the purpose of sports betting. Therefore some people may want to place bets that seem quite large, ie: £100, £200, £500 etc.
However, most, if not all bookmakers, discriminate and take the view, that if you start to win too often, or too much, then you should have your bets heavily restricted, prevented, or close your online betting account totally. They believe that they should only be allowed to accommodate customers who consistently lose in order to maximise their profits.
Why are they granted Licenses to trade, if they refuse to take business from the very people they are granted the license to trade with?
I would like to see legislation brought in that obliges online UK Bookmakers to lay bets to any UK resident in the same way that has been legislated for in Australia, details of which can be read on the following link: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/superracing/racingnsw-set-new-minimum-bet-guidelines-for-corporate-bookmakers-from-september-1/news-story/e9001b0738f5392b85229ac732e66093?=
Surely it is not unreasonable in this day and age to expect any UK Licensed bookmaker to lay a bet at the currently advertised odds (which may go down as well as up) with a liability of £500 on a single bet?
