We all know that senior year, during the pandemic, has been rough. The world has never experienced a year like this. It affected everything we love. While it’s important that we are safe, it is also important to be fair. That is why I need your help

As most of you know, The UHSAA has made our Region competition Virtual. Did you also know that other choirs, with more students, get to have their choirs LIVE? Why? Chamber choirs have fewer students.

Did you also know that UHSAA is also in charge of all sporting events? There sports are continuing LIVE and WITHOUT MASKS! Wrestling and cheerleading include physical contact. Chamber choir does not. This is totally unfair. Why does Sports place a higher value over Chamber Choir when the risk of infection to COVID-19 is so much greater? We stand apart from each other AND WEAR MASKS! 

This bias has not only affected me, but other choirs members as well. We are angry and in tears. I knew I needed to take action. I couldn’t tolerate this discriminatory treatment. I need you to sign this petition.  

I am only one voice, but this petition is our way to take back the hard earned LIVE competition that we deserve and worked hard to accomplish. On UHSAA’s website it states “Participation in sports and activities gives students a sense of self and community—” Why are we denied that sense of community by allowing the larger community to receive our voices?

What is the concern? We can follow strict regulations: testing two days before, wearing masks the entire time, social distancing between choirs and the adjudicators, and even having the competition in an open area or a place with open doors and windows. How can our precautions be in question when wrestlers and cheerleaders do not even keep social distancing rules? This is an outrage!
