UCSC has sent out a message to all students that they will have online lecture and etc and are cancelling most activities in person until April 3rd. This however doesn’t allow us to make a decision about cancelling our student on-campus housing because we have to pay during spring break and we won’t know if spring quarter is cancelled in-person. This means that our housing rent and campus fees will still go through during spring break, and if they decide later that everything will be online, we will all be losing money since most people would stay home. This seems maliciously intended on UCSC’s part since other UCs at least have cancelled all of spring quarter allowing students to make plans in advance. 
They should at least let us know now in advance if all of spring quarter will be online. What would be even better is if they would allow us to cancel housing or refund housing for people who will be staying home. Campus fees, like other campuses have been petitioning about, should also be waived if students will not be using campus facilities at all or at least less. 
Please sign this petition if you believe that we should get more notice about what is happening next quarter for us to be able to plan accordingly. UCSC should not leave us hanging and let us choose what we should best do with our money.
