UCity needs a TNR* Ordinance

UCity needs a TNR* Ordinance

The Issue

TNR (*Trap Neuter Vaccinate Return) is the humane solution to cat overpopulation in our community.

UCity residents have quietly been providing food, shelter, and veterinary care for our community cats for many years.  Unfortunately UCity’s animal ordinances put our compassionate neighbors at risk for expensive fines, and their neutered and vaccinated kitties in danger of euthanasia.

UCity TNR was formed in October of 2018, after dozens of residents emailed their City Council members to defend a community cat caretaker being threatened with fines by code enforcement.  Since then, UCity TNR has been regularly sharing helpful information with UCity's leadership:  TNR effectively stabilizes and ultimately reduces feral cat populations.  TNR addresses neighborhood safety concerns, and successfully saves taxpayer dollars.  St. Louis City,  St.Charles City &  St. Charles County Animal Control have all adopted TNR policies because they work.

So far UCity TNR volunteers have successfully trapped, neutered, vaccinated, and returned more than 50 cats to our community.  UCity TNR volunteers have also partnered with local rescue groups, and found “furr”ever homes for 12 friendly UCity strays.  TNR volunteers have done all this work AT NO COST to UCity taxpayers.

It's time for UCity to adopt a TNR ordinance.
