UCC bubbled tennis courts to serve students, families, and alumni first!

UCC bubbled tennis courts to serve students, families, and alumni first!
The Issue
The Issue
We are UCC students asking for the support of parents, alumni, and the broader UCC community.
Members of the Upper Canada College (UCC) community—students, families, and alumni—are seeking clarity and open dialogue regarding access to the tennis courts located beside the hockey arena on UCC property.
While the outdoor tennis courts appear on official school and donation maps, the two year-round bubbled courts are not included, despite being located on school land. These courts are currently used year-round by a private organization, B&R Tennis Club, which publicly references OWNING! Their absence from UCC maps and materials has contributed to confusion and uncertainty within the community regarding access, governance, and future use.
In February 2025, students and families launched a petition requesting that these tennis courts remain accessible to the UCC community. More than 250 individuals signed in support, and the Upper Canada College Tennis Booster Club, a student-run initiative, reached out to members of the UCC community to encourage engagement. Despite these efforts, requests for clarification and discussion with school leadership have not yet resulted in a formal response or school-wide consultation.
Concern has grown as there appears to be ongoing discussion about expanded use of these courts by external organizations, while students and families continue to seek clarity. UCC has student-athletes who represent the school competitively in tennis, yet consistent access to school courts remains limited.
Tennis is a year-round sport, and in Toronto—where court access is increasingly limited—these facilities represent a valuable resource for student development, wellbeing, and community programming. Many within the UCC community believe there is strong interest in prioritizing students, families, and alumni in the use of UCC’s own facilities.
Our Request
We respectfully ask that Upper Canada College initiate a school-wide consultation or questionnaire to better understand whether the UCC community supports access to the tennis courts for school use. A transparent and inclusive process would help ensure that future decisions reflect community values and UCC’s educational and athletic priorities.

Thank you for taking the time to read and engage with this issue. We are hopeful that, with community support, this can become a constructive and positive conversation for the future of tennis at UCC.

We are asking for clarity, accountability, and fairness.
Our request is simple:
Please ask UCC leaders and for:
1) A formal school-wide communication explaining ownership, governance, and access rights for all tennis courts on UCC property
2) Transparency around who negotiated and approved any agreements with B&R Tennis Club
3) Confirmation that UCC students, families, and alumni have first booking priority over any non-affiliated organization
Facilities that sit on school land and shape student experience should never be governed in silence.
