Remove the Rainbow 6 Siege Map Rotation
The Issue
Hello my fellow gamers,
Today, I want to talk to you about a problem that has been ruining Siege for the past couple of seasons. Ubisoft has been tailoring the game to the pro scene, but most of the players in the community are not pro level. Most of the players like to enjoy all aspects of the game, without any limitations. Obviously, some of the changes lately have been positive. However, one particular issue that many players have a problem with is the map rotation. Now I will present some reasoning behind the rotation and why it is problematic.
The developers have claimed to do this because of rampant spawn peeking issues on the other maps.
- Instead of fixing these issues they have been adding paid cosmetics and other things that are not pertinent to the issue (I'm sure that most players would not mind delaying the release on some elite skins in exchange for fixing gameplay).
When they added the rotation, they also claimed it was for new players to learn the maps.
- Among players that I've talked to, they especially dislike the gigantic maps such as Themepark and Tower because they are so difficult to navigate. I am in platinum, so I play with a lot of experienced players who have issues with these large maps. Imagine how difficult it is for newer players to learn these. Instead, they are missing out on manageable maps, that are also a lot of fun, like House, Hereford, and Plane (If you don't want to remove the rotation, at least put these gems in there).
They have said that some of the maps are very data intensive, and need to be reworked.
- This is probably the most reasonable issue they have presented. But, it's been 3 seasons. The developers are talented, and they fixed Kafe Dostoyevski, they can fix the other maps. They even said they would "make certain that we are able to eliminate any glitches or exploits prior to entering new maps into the competitive map pool" (https://rainbow6.ubisoft.com/siege/en-us/news/152-299564-16/changes-to-map-rotations-in-season-3). I'd like to point out that last part because it has been this long and only one map has been added (Tower) since that article was posted.
As a result of this map rotation, we have spent these 3 seasons (over 8 months) playing the same set of maps in ranked. Of course, we could go play casual, but it is not the same experience. Many players enjoy taking the game seriously and working toward trying to improve and rank up. To be quite frank, a lot of the maps in the rotation are not even close to the best maps in the game (in terms of fun). If the map rotation really needed to stay, there could be a separate playlist of Pro League Ready maps for ranked, but the majority of people who play ranked want to enjoy all of the maps.
This is my final plea to Ubisoft. We regular gamers are not all Pro League players. This is not the same game that I played in 2015. Yes, there have been many good changes, and I applaud you for them, but the map rotation is ruining your game. Please, remember the average players, those who may not have the skill and reaction times of these professionals, but still enjoy this game immensely. Please remove the map rotation from ranked.
