Stop the sale of tigers and tiger parts on the black market
The Issue
Today, there is a black market that is illegally prospering off of a beautiful but diminishing animal species: tigers. Tiger parts are sold to Southeast Asian countries, such as China and Laos, to create traditional Asian "medicines." These medicines, however, have NO scientific evidence of working. In other words, it's only to make a profit, which fuels the poacher trade. A poacher can make about $50,000 off of a single tiger.
In addition, tigers are bred on illegal properties called "tiger zoos." The tigers are abused and kept in cages to sell their skin, bones, and meat. Cubs are taken away from their mothers for petting shows. For this reason, in addition to poaching and habitat loss, there are only under 4,000 tigers left in the wild. There are many more tigers kept in captivity in the U.S. than there are in the wild worldwide.
If you sign this petition, we can pressure the U.S. Congress to pass legislation that will criminalize the illegal sale and capture of tigers in the country. As a result, the government can crack down harder on Southeast Asian countries that participate in the same actions. Tigers are vital to our ecosystem and deserve to live just like we do. Let's show these majestic creatures that we see them and that we care!
