Getting SeaWorld to increase tanks size

Getting SeaWorld to increase tanks size
The Issue
The average lifespan of the animals in captivity is 30 years while wild they can live up to 80 years. By keeping these marine mammals in the conditions they are living in right now, they are more prone to stress and having negative interactions with humans. A solution for this problem would be to create harsher laws for amusement parks which will help stop marine mammal cruelty by ensuring that the animals have the proper physical conditions, and are treated ethically by employees. This solution will work because it will have the marine mammals being treated better so there will be less accidents and death of these animals. With these changes one of the problems have been fixed, now there is just fixing how the employees interact with the animals.
Ensuring that the animals have the proper physical conditions. According to National Geographic, “Putting orcas in a box that is 150 feet long by 90 feet wide by 30 feet deep and there basically turning into a couch potato.” The diet for these animals is also lacking. They have only fish every single day, but if they were in the wild they would have a wide variety of food including sea grass, fish, birds, smaller marine mammals, and squids. If there could be a law that makes the regulations for tanks to be slightly larger making them 300 feet long by 180 feet wide and by 60 feet deep then the animals could have room to go around and let them move around. And if the law could require the aquariums, and amusement parks to feed the animal a diet that helps them instead of just feeding them fish.
There have been over 100 attacks by orcas on humans. And over 70 of them are when one of the trainers came into the tank whose orca is not comfortable with them.“In 2013, the documentary film Blackfish laid bare the psychological toll of captivity, through the story of a wild-caught orca named Tilikum who had killed multiple trainers at SeaWorld Orlando. This film included testimony from former SeaWorld trainers and cetacean specialists, who argued that Tilikum’s stress directly led to his aggression towards humans.Court record has shown that SeaWorld had documented, between 1988 and 2009, over 100 instances of their orcas being aggressive towards trainers. Eleven of those instances resulted in injury, and one in death.”(Daly 14)The problem is that the orcas don't have enough space to move around freely so they get really stressed which goes back to the first part of the solution. The second part of the solution would be educating the trainers and employees so they understand what is happening with the orcas and they can study the past so the trainers never get into the situation others have gotten into. With both of these solutions this problem will become better.
A solution for the Creating harsher laws for amusement parks will help to improve marine mammal cruelty by ensuring that the animals have the proper physical conditions, and are treated ethically by employees. This solution will work because it will have the marine mammals being treated better so there will be less accidents and death of these animals. The solution to this problem is making the regulations for tanks bigger so the marine mammals have more area to move around and making all the employees at the parks where marine mammals live take lessons to learn about them so they don't get hurt. This issue can be changed if people just try to change.
