The International Whaling Commission will vote in June on a deadly proposal to overturn the global ban on commercial whaling. Countries like Japan, Norway, and Iceland, who ignored the moratorium in the first place, stand to directly benefit. The draft proposal, expected to be released officially on April 22, would overturn the global ban on commercial whaling and allow a great expansion of whale hunting, including in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary around Antarctica.
