U.S. Residents: Action Needed for Valles Caldera National Preserve

The Issue

The Valles Caldera National Preserve - formerly known as the Baca Ranch - spans 89,000 acres in New Mexico’s volcanic Jemez Mountain Range. Valles Caldera boasts some of the most unique and beautiful scenery in the American Southwest and offers a variety of recreational opportunities.

Recently, Senators Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall (D-NM) introduced legislation to transfer management of Valles Caldera from the Valles Caldera Trust to the National Park Service, which has the experience and resources to better manage the Preserve. This bill, S. 3452, will be reviewed by the Senate Natural Resources Committee on June 24.
