Gettysburg battlefield marker to honor WWII camp

Gettysburg battlefield marker to honor WWII camp

The Issue

We petition the National Park Service to erect a historical marker at the Camp Sharpe site in Mcmillan Woods, off Confederate Avenue in Gettysburg, PA, where World War II soldiers, many of them refugees from fascist Europe, many of them Jews, were secretly trained as specialists in psychological warfare. These soldiers chose words as their weapons, and, from D-Day until the surrender of Germany, successfully persuaded thousands of Axis soldiers to surrender. At present, the Park Service has allowed two markers noting the activities of Camp Colt, a WWI tank training center. A Camp Sharpe marker would remind visitors that the Gettysburg National Military Park also includes an important World War II site.
