Repurpose The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
The Issue
Approximately 67,448 charges of discrimination were filed in 2020. Tragically, every year thousands of Americans never receive justice due to the EEOC's case load, massive time wasting, and long convoluted process. Too, when ethical violations are committed by EEOC employees the Commission is reluctant to take corrective action in my experience.
The EEOC's process and departmental counterparts (Commission, Intake, Mediation, Enforcement, and Legal Team) can/should be streamlined for timeliness to resolve charges through the Mediation Department and or issuing a "General/Generic Right to Sue Letter" within 30 days (not 180 days) if the employer refuses to enter mediation. The Enforcement Unit is redundant/obsolete in it's current state due to the abundance of attorneys available both public defenders and private practice lawyers.
If the U.S. Congress acts now millions of Americans will have their chance to pursue justice in court a lot sooner than previous years. Our tax dollars should not be wasted on an outdated bureaucracy. We need a reformed/streamlined EEOC. Delayed justice is injustice where statute of limitations are concerned.
