America's national parks are a national treasure, home to a vast array of wildlife and a critical part of maintaining our ecosystem. The National Parks Service protects these places from the ravages of oil drilling through the 9B restrictions. Especially after the 2016 update, these restrictions enforce strict conditions oil companies must meet in order to drill in a national park, hold them accountable for the consequences of any spills, and prohibit drilling entirely in certain critical areas.

In 2017, Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona and six other Republicans introduced House Joint Resolution 46. Not only would it repeal the 2016 update to the 9B regulations, rolling it back to the much more lax 1978 standards, but also require Congress, rather than the National Parks Service, to pass any further policy changes, essentially preventing the NPS from ever restricting drilling in parks again. If passed, JR-46 would effectively mean the end of any restriction on oil drilling in national parks. America's pristine wilderness areas would be destroyed, replaced by vast stretches of oil and gas drills. Thousands of unique species of plant and animal would die, our air quality would decline, and we would no longer have these beautiful places to visit, all for the short-term profit of oil executives.

Our petition asks the House to reject JR-46. Tell them that the profits of oil companies are not more important than the health of our nation and our planet. Don't let corporate greed destroy our national parks.
