Police Training Reform

Police Training Reform
The Issue
I am proposing
-Annual Psych evaluations
-At least 1 yr of training in the police academy
-Annual racial & implicit bias in person training
-Consistently see a therapist for 3 months prior to serving the community
-Annual de-escalation training
-immediately fired for using deadly force on unarmed persons
Every year hundreds of people lose their lives at the hands of police violence unnecessarily. This is not the case in other first world countries. Is it because their citizens are better behaved than U.S. citizens? No, this is because their officers have more training. Better trained officers are better prepared and more equipped mentally, emotionally, and physically to handle issues without lethal force.
It’s the duty of police officers to uphold and defend the law. The same laws that takes lawyers years to learn while on average it only requires 13-19 weeks of training to become an officer. This is illogical.
13-19 weeks is not enough time to learn the majority of the laws you’re required to defend and uphold to serve and protect citizens of our communities. So I am proposing a police training reform across the U.S. that includes:
-Annual Psych evaluations
-At least 1 yr of training in the police academy
-Annual racial & implicit bias in person training
-Consistently see a therapist for 3 months prior to serving the community
-Annual de-escalation training
This will aide in putting the trust back into our officers and the justice system while making everyone feel safe. Nobody will die from extra training and protocols but there are lives that can be saved with this. Sign this petition and help save lives!
