The election of 2016 did not need to be the way it was. Evidence from several Wikileaks emails indicates that the Democratic National Committee, as well as Hillary Clinton's campaign staff, used their influence on states and the media to encourage attention be given to "pied piper" candidates such as Donald Trump.

The same DNC, after also engaging in questionable behaviors to hinder Mr. Sanders becoming their nominee, then proceeded with the Clinton campaign to hold America hostage in the general election.

We were told that we must elect a disgraceful, unappealing and inconsistent candidate in Hillary Rodham Clinton. We were told that if we did not pay their "ransom" by voting for the candidate the Democratic Party nominated, that we would be forced to endure a Trump presidency.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC's intentions were made even more clear when they went to great lengths to attack the third party candidates, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein, insisting that we MUST vote for Clinton, and are not allowed a more palatable and qualified alternative.

Because America refused to pay this ransom at the ballot box, we are now faced with a Trump presidency.

It has become all too clear this year that how we vote lies at the root of how America was able to be held hostage--by being forced, yet again, to choose the lesser of two evils, which is the nature of our current voting system, First Past The Post.

I therefore urge Congress to draft legislation immediately to implement and mandate a Ranked Choice Voting system for all future Federal elections. This system will allow voters the ability to indicate a preference for a third party if neither are their first choice, followed by the major party they would prefer to see win. This system recently won by ballot vote in Maine.

Ranked Choice Voting will help to prevent undesirable candidates in the future from being put forth by a major party for their own interests--or worse, influencing the other major party's results to better the odds for their own, while forcing us to select one of two truly unpalatable options if we don't want to risk "wasting" our vote.

Please do not allow the United States to become hostage to its own election system again.
