Demand accountability for the Biden administration's botched US departure from Afghanistan

The Issue

For military members and Veterans, especially those that served in country, the colossal failure of the Biden/Harris administration to properly plan and execute an honorable and effective departure from Afghanistan, has been and continues to be demoralizing. A whole new generation of military Veterans now understand a little better what their brothers and sisters who fought in Viet Nam experienced.

Veteran's who served in the "War on Terror" are now questioning why after 20+ years did the administration fumble this exit so badly. Men and women came home less than whole, others came home in flag draped coffins, and their families are left with old emotional wounds re-opened, as all the accomplishments made in this war have been undone, in what feels like a blink of an eye, and the sacrifices made, now seem to have been pointless to many.

Losing more men and women in uniform due to this botched withdrawal is unacceptable.  Abandoning Americans and our allies in Afghanistan is unacceptable.

While most of us Veterans appreciate all the kind words of encouragement the good people of America are offering in condolence, respectfully, they're not enough. The words are hollow if we as a nation fail to hold the administration and top military brass accountable for their ineptitude. We demand accountability, and not just lip service, those responsible need to lose their jobs, and frankly, impeachment should not be off the table for consideration.

The merits of this conflict will be debated well into the future.  But with so many lives sacrificed, with so many families forever changed, with so many US tax payer dollars wasted, our government owes everyone of us and explanation and accountability.  If, as President Joe Biden said, the buck stops with him, ultimately it is he that must be held accountable for this failed exit from Afghanistan.  With an unknown number of US non-combatants, our citizens, and our allies stranded there, with millions of dollars of our advanced equipment now in the hands of the Taliban, and a new safe haven for those that would do us harm established, President Biden must own his failure, as too must Vice President Kamala Harris, and their senior military advisors, most notably Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley.  As this debacle continues,   U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken must also be held accountable.  To not hold these people accountable would be unacceptable.

Holding those responsible accountable, removing them from their positions, would restore the American people's trust in our Executive Branch, and our military leaders.  It would also send a critical message to Washington D.C., that never again can our government squander the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.  The world is watching, and history will either tell a tale of honesty and accountability, or one of ineptitude and disgrace.

This debacle will go down in history as one of the most devastating, yet avoidable, strategic, operational and diplomatic failures ever. With the 24 hour news cycle and social media, this national humiliation was seen on our screens, in our living rooms, and across the globe, with echoes of the fall of Saigon gnawing at our collective psyche.  But we can make steps to restore the faith the American people, and our allies have in the United States government.  It's not too late, but we need you to sign this petition, write your representatives, and spread the word.  Do not let this travesty fade into our memory, do not let those that failed us get away with out facing justice.

It's time for all Americans to come together and demand accountability. They owe it to our Veterans, and they owe it to the American people. If ever their was a cause to rally around, it is accountability for this horrible event, viewed as a betrayal by our Veterans, and as a catastrophe by most Americans.  This has tarnished the reputation of our armed forces, past and present, and squandered the respect our allies and partners have for our nation.  Worse, it has emboldened and empowered those that would do us harm.

As our elected representatives you owe it to our Veterans, and to the American people, to hold the President and his leadership team accountable for their failure.
