Take Action: Sign Canine Companions’ Change.org petition urging Congress to pass the Paws Off Act of 2021 (HR 5261) to protect pets from accidental xylitol poisoning.

The Paws Off Act educates pet owners about the risk and presence of xylitol in everyday products like sugar-free gum, breath mints, vitamins, cough drops, some peanut butters and more. Accidental ingestion of xylitol can end in tragedy. If passed, the Paws Off Act would require food containing xylitol to include a warning outlining its danger to pets. Canine Companions – the largest provider of service dogs – is supporting the Paws Off Act of 2021 because, like you, we care about the safety of all animals, including service dogs and puppies training to be service dogs.

In 2018, the American Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) animal poison control center received 6,760 xylitol-related calls - more than 30 times the number of calls related to xylitol in 2005. This common ingredient is particularly toxic to dogs. In fact, the death of a dog from xylitol poisoning is what prompted Representative David Schweikert to introduce the Paws Off Act (HR 5261).

Protect all animals, including service dogs and puppies by supporting the Paws Off Act! Sign our Change.org petition urging Congress to pass this important legislation today.
