Save the Hawaiian Monk Seals!

The Issue

The Hawaiian monk seal is the mammal of Hawaii and is endangered. In Hawaii, these mammals are known as "Ilio-holo-i-ka-uaua" or "dog that runs in rough water" because they face many dangers, much more dangerous than just rigid waves. Problems they face are limited food sources, getting trapped in fishing nets, being hunted by predators (like tiger sharks), disease and marine litter. Only about 1,100 individuals remain from this species, and they are predators who help keep the prey income at a lower level. Since Hawaii is a part of the US, asking the US Fish and Wildlife Service to partake in preserving these creatures would be a step to helping them not become extinct.
