USCIS Should Begin Stamping H1B Visas In The US.
Tens of thousands of H1Bs are approved annually. Once approval is obtained thousands of said US resident workers scramble to get time off work to travel to their home countries, Canada or Mexico to get their H1B stamped to facilitate international travel. Since COVID-19, newly minted H1B workers resident in the US and H1B holders with expired visa stamps have struggled greatly to leave the US to get stamped. I hereby petition the department of homeland security begins stamping H1B domestically (within the US).
I moved to the US in 2016 on an F1 visa which expired in July 2018, ending my ability to travel. In November 2019, my H1B was approved and my biggest joy was that I could start traveling again. First, to reunite with family; I haven't seen my brothers in 5 and 7 years respectively. Secondly, to see the world. But COVID-19 happened and US Consulates around the world have been bugged down with backlog. The earliest appointment in my home country is in 2024, while the earliest is Canada is December, 2022.
I'm not alone, many have been stuck in the US, unable to travel and reunite with family mostly because they are unable to get interview date at the US consulate in their home countries, Canada or Mexico. If the department of homeland security begins stamping H1B visa within the US many H1B workers, like myself, would finally be able to reunite with our loved ones.
An appointment at a US consulate costs $190, flight tickets and possible hotel costs could potentially add another $600 - $2,000. The department of homeland security could charge upwards of $250 for this service and H1B holders would be willing to pay.
