A study conducted in 2018 determined that one vial of human insulin costs $2.28-$3.42 to produce, and one vial of analog insulin costs $3.69-$6.16 to produce. Yet, one vial of human insulin is sold for $25-$100, and one vial of analog insulin is sold for $174-$300. 

Being able to afford insulin should not be a luxury or a privilege- it should be a right- because everyone deserves the right to live. 

My father has diabetes and my family is fortunate enough that we don’t have to struggle to pay for insulin. We are able to afford insulin and be able to put food on the table and be able to enjoy life without wondering if we can afford my father’s next vial of insulin. This in itself is a privilege that my family has, but being able to afford to live should not be a privilege. Everyone deserves the right to live. No one should have to pay to live- because insulin is not just a drug. It is the difference between life or death for millions of people.
