Pass Bill H.R. 125 to increase police sensitivity training and brutality investigations
The Issue
The inhumane killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breanna Taylor, and countless other defenseless African-Americans have sparked protests and outrage nationwide. Racist systems ingrained into our society that have oppressed minorities for decades are finally at the forefront of public debate. Protests nationwide have shown that the American people will no longer stand for such injustices. Now it is time to take this energy and channel it into legitimate change.
Bill H.R. 125 proposed by Steve Cohen, a Democratic Tennessee congressman, will incentivize States to require police training on ethnic and racial bias and simultaneously make it easier to prosecute the misuse of deadly force. These measures will begin to repair the relationship between the police and the people and lays the groundwork for future changes.
However, this bill will not pass without the support of the people. Skopos Labs, an A.I. platform designed to predict the result of proposed legislation, says that this bill only has a 2% chance of passing. Without support, the beneficial changes of this bill will never see the light of day, and thus the broken and racist police systems will go unchanged.
