It is the request of the family, friends and community members that a thorough investigation be undertaken on behalf of the unsolved murder of Gilberto Francisco Guzman, who was fatally shot on August 18, 2012. Gilbert is a father, son, brother, uncle, friend and a hard working taxpaying citizen. Gilbert a father to (4) children Guiliahno, Carmen, Daniel and Samantha, was gunned down by a man in an alley right outside a back yard where a wedding reception he attended was being held; this hideous crime ripped through the core of a family grieving a previous experience.

Gilbert is the fourth son to Maria Guzman, whom on December 16, 1983 lost her eldest son to an unresolved murder, and now 28 years later this second tragedy to a younger son has devastated her. It has renewed her bad experience with law enforcement; it challenges her trust in a system that already failed to find the perpetrator of her eldest son murder case.

Very little is known about the person responsible for Gilbert’s murder and we are desperate for the closure of this case. We are working with the LAPD Newton division, who is responsible for this investigation however, it is very frustrating when we have little to no information and cannot seem to go forward with finding the person responsible and bringing him to justice. Gilbert’s murder is one of a series of murders that have occurred in the same area. We are requesting your immediate attention and support in the investigation process to this case. It will not only help solve Gilberto Guzman murder but provide resources for those cases which remain open in the community of Central-Alameda.

The experience of losing a loved one is a difficult one, yet even more so when it involves the violent act of a perpetrator and the case remains unsolved. We plead that you step up to support the families affected by this murder.

It is not unusual for these activities to take place in our communities but does not mean that it should continue that way. Security measures has been beefed up in the Jefferson Park and West Adams areas surrounding the USC campus as a result of (2) graduate students murdered in spring 2012, a tragedy in its own right. One human life should not supersede another. We do understand that a big obstacle in these cases is the lacking willingness of testimony from witnesses; it is so with this case. Our commitment is that we break away from that blanket of suppression and move into a culture for the continuity of safer streets for all neighborhoods.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Your assistance is greatly appreciated in this urgent matter.
