Debbie Ryan started this petition to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Please sign and share this petition to have flood control measures put in place in my beloved hometown of Manville, NJ, so my friends can finally get some help to protect their homes and families.

The following are excerpts taken from an article published March 24, 2106 in My Central Jersey by Mike Deak @MikeDeakMyCJ after the Army Corps of Engineers concluded that possible flood-control measures around Manville do not meet the federal government's benefit-cost requirements.

And now here is Manville today, once again under water with hundreds of people having to be rescued from their damaged homes.

In 2016, Millstone Rivers Flood Control Commission, members and residents attended a meeting to express disappointment about the Corps' conclusion after spending more than $3 million on a feasibility study over several years.

Criticism of the Corps' conclusion centered on how the cost-benefit analysis was calculated, the scope of the feasibility study and why other measures were not considered.

Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli (R-District 16), who represents Manville, said the Corps should have conducted a "sensitivity analysis" to determine the costs of floods that are not included in insurance claims or how lives are impacted. "Numbers don't always tell the story,"he said.

Manville residents are not giving up the fight for flood-control measures that would protect the borough from repeats of the devastating floods in recent decades. Many residents feel "stuck in Manville" because they cannot sell their homes due tp potential flooding.

The Corps was criticized for not studying the possible impact of removing the Island Farm Weir on the Raritan River just east of its confluence with the Millstone River. The four-foot dam built by the New Jersey Water Supply Authority has the effect of backing up water into Manville instead of letting it flow freely on the Raritan River into the Atlantic Ocean.

Tropical Storm Ida has wreaked havoc on this town, and rescuers couldn't even get through to save people who were trapped inside their homes.

I hope you will find it in your heart to help this little town that fears the rain. Change starts with you.
