Help end the massacre of 50 deer inside of Kensington Metropark!

The scheduled mass kill inside of Kensington Metropark has been temporarily postponed due to weather. However, Kensington was issued two permits for two scheduled "culls." One was issued for Thursday, February 4th, but was postponed due to weather. The other permit was issued for Thursday, February 11th. The second date did not continue on as planned, despite the permit. Because of community opposition, media attention and backlash, the park's Chief of Natural Resources, Tyler Mitchell has stated that the killing will continue as planned, at an unannounced date and time. On the unannounced date in the middle of the night, the park plans to have police guarding all entrances to the publicly funded park and will be withholding this information from the public themselves. This now remains a threat to the surrounding neighbors, and the deer. Our goal now is to stop any future deer massacres inside of the park. 

These deer have created families, found safety, and an abundance of food and resources. But, most importantly, it is one of the few remaining areas of land that naturally exists as humans have encroached on their sanctuaries and safe havens. This park is known for it's exceptional beauty and the wildlife that inhabit it.

Deer culls are unnecessary and cruel. They rip families apart, terrorize animals and then classify it as "conservation." We are asking that Kensington Metropark, Milford Township and the Clinton-Huron Metroparks look at alternatives to lethal execution of these animals. For instance, PZP, an immunocontraceptive vaccine that can be administered to adult female deer, making them infertile for up to 3 years. Lethally and inhumanely handling the deer because of "overpopulation" is ineffective and cruel. In fact, this can create a population problem. The deer who do not survive the culling will allow more deer to move in and use the available resources. The temporary spike in the food supply will result in the remaining female deer to breed an an accelerated rate, which results in an ineffective and cruel killing cycle for years to come. 

We are asking that not only the albino female deer be spared from this cull, but every individual who will be baited by food and betrayed by the humans who should be ensuring their safety within our park that they call home. We ask that Kensington cancel this massacre this year and no longer consider this inhumane, lethal action in years to come.
