Two Pedestrian Safety Issues on Chestnut Hill Drive and Thompson Road

Two Pedestrian Safety Issues on Chestnut Hill Drive and Thompson Road
The Issue
I am writing to make two requests.
First, I am petitioning for the city to close the gap in the sidewalk on the east side of Chestnut Hill Drive, just north of Pathfield Drive due to the current safety hazard. Many people walk their dogs and/or bike with their children down Chestnut Hill Drive, and the area with no sidewalk forces people out into the street. While the speed limit is 25 mph, cars far exceed the speed limit, including passing one another on this two-lane road. While I appreciate that there is a sidewalk on part of the west side of the street, it is not well maintained, including a steep sideways incline creating a fall hazard into the drainage ditch. Fixing the westside sidewalk would be appropriate, but it does not negate the need for an eastside sidewalk as you would be asking pedestrians, including young children, to cross Chestnut Hill Drive twice, again - a road with fast-moving traffic.
I am also petitioning for the city to add a stop-light metered pedestrian crosswalk for people to safely cross Thompson Road. The city will need to decide where the best location is, but we are shooting for somewhere between the intersection of Thompson Road and Chestnut Hill Drive and the intersection of Thompson Road and the entrance to Our Home Senior Living Center. Thompson Road has become very busy due to all the apartment complexes that have been built in the last years. Many adults and children cross this road daily on foot or bike for exercise, to get to Meijer or Home Depot, or to get to Thompson Park. We need a safer way to cross Thompson Road!
