The issue

Residents of Ngongotahā are increasingly concerned about the safety and environmental risks posed by the local wrecking yard operating within our growing township.

As Ngongotahā continues to develop into a residential community, facilities that store vehicles, oils, batteries, and other hazardous materials pose a significant fire, smoke, and environmental risk to nearby homes, schools, and businesses.

This concern has been heightened after multiple fires at the site, sending thick toxic smoke & fire embers into the surrounding neighbourhood.

We believe this type of industrial operation is no longer appropriate in the middle of a growing residential township.

We respectfully call on the Rotorua Lakes Council and the Bay of Plenty Regional Council to review the location of this wrecking yard and work towards relocating it to a more suitable industrial zone away from homes and families.
