Create an equitable, safe, and successful hybrid education model quickly and responsibly.

Create an equitable, safe, and successful hybrid education model quickly and responsibly.
The Issue
The Issue:
Under the current virtual education program being delivered by TTUSD, students receive five (5) full days of Teacher Instruction with a synchronized (i.e. the same) learning path across grade levels.
TTUSD parents were asked to respond to a survey regarding having their children participate in hybrid education without being given information on the actual hybrid model that was to be implemented.
After the survey was complete, TTUSD released their plan to transition to hybrid learning where there will be no option for five (5) days per week of Teacher Instruction that is offered.
Parents have been given a choice between two NEW options as follows:
Hybrid Model composed of:
- Two (2) days of in-person Teacher Instruction
- One day (1) day of virtual Teacher Instruction
- Two (2) days of Independent Study with Teacher Interaction
Year Long Distance Learning* composed of:
- One day of virtual Teacher Instruction
- Four (4) days of Independent Study with Teacher Interaction
- Parents are explicitly expected to serve as the students at home “learning coach”
* Will have an asynchronous learning path from hybrid students
Note: Teacher Interaction is not the same as Teacher Instruction. Teacher Interaction days are defined in the FAQ as those where “students will have daily live interaction with their teachers to go over daily work expectations, but the majority of their work will be independent.”
The choices provided result in reduced teacher instruction for all students.
In addition, the choices result in inequities of education between the two options which are then exacerbated by a family’s employment and financial circumstances.
What is Requested:
- TTUSD to reconsider, without haste, the design of the hybrid and full virtual models under the guiding principles:
- No reduction in the amount of Teacher Instruction students currently receive
- Parent voice be included in the design through advisory committee, not surveys
- Equitable education regardless of which option a parent/guardian chooses
- Equitable education regardless of transportation dependency
- Social and Emotional benefits are explicitly addressed and enumerated
- Consider and compare regional hybrid pilot models from other schools
- Ensure effective safety protocols for students and teachers
- TTUSD to provide a revised implementation plan and revised calendar for implementing an equitable, safe, and successful hybrid model as quickly and as responsibly as possible.
