Call for Sheryl Tynes to step down

Call for Sheryl Tynes to step down
The Issue
Sheryl Tynes has shown a repeated pattern of workplace discrimination in her time as Vice President for Student Life. On multiple occasions, she has demonstrated behavior unbecoming of her position. She was largely responsible for the abhorrent treatment of Stacy Davidson, Alli Roman, and Myeshia Smith at this university and has been involved in numerous gaffes in the administration's relationship with BSU. Given Trinity University's recent statements regarding the Black Lives Matter movement and its supposed commitment to making Trinity a more inclusive space for Black students, we demand that Sheryl Tynes, a woman who is directly responsible for making Black students and faculty on this campus feel ostracized and unheard, be held accountable. This would at least take the form of a public apology to Stacy Davidson, Alli Roman, and Myeshia Smith and at best result in her removal from an administrative position. Up to this point, Trinity's public statements regarding the BLM movement have committed merely to palliative and ornamental adjustments. Remediating systemic racism, however, calls for systemic change, and, especially, administrative change. If Trinity is committed to Black Lives Matter, it must remove those administrators who have consistently undermined the value of Black students and faculty on this campus. We call for Sheryl Tynes to step down.
